The Silver City Police Department is continuing the investigation into the burglaries. The department believes the person(s) responsible for the burglaries are driving into the parking lots and then walking through parking lots targeting vehicles in areas where the motor vehicles are either parked away from the well-traveled areas of the parking lots or hitting vehicles parked in low light areas after dark.

Motor vehicles tend to be targets of opportunity for thieves. The Police Department is urging citizens to not leave items in plain view in their motor vehicles. If the operator is not taking items, such as purses, wallets, portable stereo devices, etc. with them, then remove the items and place them in the trunk. Do not leave anything of value in the bed of pickups. Also the department is urging citizens to park in well-traveled and well-lit areas.

We anticipate during the upcoming holiday session we will experience more thefts from vehicles because people tend to leave presents, etc. in plain view.

Additionally, Grant County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons involved. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 575-538-5254.
