The Grant County Reverse 911 System is computer software acquired by Grant County through the generous donation of a citizen that allows emergency dispatch to send public safety alerts to residents' home phones, work phones, cell phones, and email addresses. Registration for the Reverse 911 system is available at both the Grant County and Town of Silver City websites:

http://www.grantcountynm.com/

http://www.townofsilvercity.org/

Click on the "Red Telephone" icon on either home page and you will be taken to the DeltAlert website, the Houston-based company that supplies the software. Follow their instructions to register. You will need your name and physical location to register with the service so that our Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority can notify you of an emergency in your location (these folks manage our 911 systems).

Be sure to read the "FAQ" (Frequently Asked Questions) on DeltAlert's website. Contact them if for some reason if their registration process does not work for you. Our local Dispatch Authority has no control over the registration function itself. But, if you cannot register because DeltAlert does not recognize your physical address, use your GPS Coordinates. If you do not know your coordinates, go to this website to find them:

http://www.whatsmygps.com/

Once there, enter your physical address in the window on the left margin. Your GPS coordinates should ‘pop up.' If your address is not recognized by DeltAlert's database (it's continually being updated), you can manually enter your GPS coordinates in the window, or, you can find them by using the USA map on WhatsMyGPS.com. Click on the general location of Silver City on the map. Then, using the click and drag method and the plus sign (enlarging sign) below the directional arrows in the top left corner, keep enlarging the map to zero in on your address. Interestingly, if you click on "satellite" in the top right corner of the map, you will eventually "see" your actual house. Once you can see your house, click on it, and your GPS coordinates will automatically show up in the left margin. Cut and paste those onto the Reverse 911 registration form.

Feel free to register as many combinations of home phone, work phone, cell phone, and/or email address with DeltAlert as you wish. You will be able to get the reverse 911 alert wherever you are at the time it's issued. Should speaker quality be low on one device, you will be able to access the alert from another. Be patient; alerts are generated by a computer-driven voice, not an actual person. As with all computer systems, there are ‘bugs' that are continually being worked out by the County with DeltAlert - but receiving an alert is far better than learning about it too late.

Grant County Regional Dispatch: (575) 388-8840

According to the organizer of the neighborhood alliance, Regional Dispatch, (either Jean Fortenberry or her assistant), has agreed to go with her to groups to help explain the Reverse 911 system. The County continues to work with the software provider to work out the 'bugs,' so please be patient with any problems experienced.
