Silver City, NM: Aldo Leopold Charter School (ALCS) is seeking applications from the community for individuals to serve a three-year term on the ALCS Governing Council.

Like all Public Schools in New Mexico we are governed by an oversight committee. Charter Schools call this committee a Governing Council. Non-Charter Schools call it a School Board. School Board members are elected. Governing Council members are selected by a Nomination Committee comprised of broad community and school representation and their recommendations go the current ALCS Governing Council for approval.

An effective Governing Council is critical to our school and student success. In addition to the two-hour monthly general meetings, Council members are expected to serve on one or more committees that may meet monthly or quarterly. Committees include Finance, Facilities, Curriculum, Student Health, Development, Nominating, Strategic Planning, and Policy. Some ad hoc committees have specific tasks to accomplish and then disband, such as the Middle School Committee.

If you are interested in serving on the ALCS Governing Council applications can be picked up at the school office or sent electronically. Call the office at: 575-538-2547

All ALCS Governing Council Meetings are open to the public and you are always welcome to attend. Meeting dates, times and agendas can be found on our web site here.
