Papua New Guinea-Birds of Paradise

Audubon

Papua New Guinea (PNG) is the second largest island on Earth, after Greenland. It hosts rugged mountains, complex terrain and relatively few people. In thirty years of world travel as the owner and guide of Portal, Arizona-based Naturalist Journeys, Peg Abbott, says her adventure to PNG stands out as being the most remote and exotic land she has visited.

Join Peg for a lively presentation to follow her adventures there, and to learn more about the ecology and conservation challenges of this remote but rapidly developing nation.

David Attenborough made PNG's Birds of Paradise famous through the Nature DVD, Birds of the Gods. Rugged scenery and lush vegetation makes finding these birds a challenge, though a rewarding one!

Peg Abbott worked seventeen years for the National Audubon Society in the education division. She directed and taught at the Society's Audubon Camp of the West in Dubois, Wyoming, and was instrumental in establishing Audubon's program of national and international Ecology Workshops that ran for a decade, ending in 1995. Peg now lives in Portal, Arizona, where she owns and operates Naturalist Journeys LLC, a travel company offering birding, wildlife and scenic adventures worldwide.

Join us for this program at WNMU's Harlan Hall at 7:00pm. Light refreshments–everyone is welcome!
