WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman on Tuesday will hold a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing to examine the status of response capability and readiness for oil spills in foreign Outer Continental Shelf waters adjacent to United States waters.

On Wednesday, the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee will begin consideration of a bill to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Bingaman is a senior member of the HELP committee and has played key roles in the development of federal education laws over the past three decades.

On Thursday, Bingaman will testify before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee on a bill he introduced to authorize the Mescalero Apache Tribe to lease or transfer certain of their water rights for a term of up to 99 years.

On the floor this week, the Senate will begin consideration of the Agriculture, Commerce, Justice and Science, and Transportation/HUD appropriations bill.
