Take Me Home - the Music of John Denver by Jim Curry

The Grant County Community Concert Association is pleased to bring a tribute to the music of John Denver - Take Me Home - by Jim Curry and his band, at the Silver City Fine Arts Center Theatre in Silver City - the best venue in Southwest. Jim Curry began his music career writing and performing "The Time of Your Life" for his senior play. Jim was awarded a scholarship to study music as a result of that performance. Since then, he's continued to specialize in the songs of John Denver, sharing John's positive messages of humanity, love, and environmental awareness.

John Denver was born in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1943, and wrote 300 songs until his untimely death at age 53 in 1997. Denver starred in films and TV specials throughout the Seventies and Eighties, later focusing on environmental issues and lending his vocal support to space exploration. John lived in Aspen, Colorado, the state that named him Poet Laureat of the state (1974), and adopted "Rocky Mountain High" as a state song. He was an avid pilot.

CBS television honored Denver's life and his work by producing a television tribute special to Denver in which Jim Curry sang as the voice of John Denver. Jim's not your usual ‘Vegas style' impersonator. He doesn't impersonate at all. He uses his natural voice, in tribute to Denver's music - his similar appearance is a bonus. Jim will be playing tonight with a full band!

Jim believes that John Denver's prose still rings true in these difficult times of economy, war and environmental crisis. As a result, Jim is seeing more and more young people at his concerts. Curry says, ‘These songs blend the images of our natural earth with a love for each other as people. The care you give to someone you love is the bst care. Making that connection to our earth and to each other is the goal."
