Silver City –It is that time of year again: a lot of summer fun! The Silver City Public Library is happy to announce that registration has begun for the annual Summer Reading Program.  Children, teens, and adults can register to get a log, or game board and track their participation at their own pace. Earn prizes and enter the end-of-summer prize drawings by reading and coming to events!

Come in and get everything you need for the program such as calendars and logs as well as a bag and a small gift. Registration happens throughout the summer. Registration is required to receive prizes, but you do not have to register to come to events.

The Summer Reading Program is made possible by the Friends of the Library.

The theme for this year's program is "Color our World," and we have a lot of activities for kids and adults. Tuesdays and Thursdays  feature great activities and crafts for kids, such as Messy Art Day, Ice Cream Making, and Birdhouses. All events are free, and no registration is required.

We have a bunch of performers and special presenters this summer. For the first part of June, the library will host the following:

Come kick off the summer with some fun in the sun dancing! We will be learning some traditional Irish dance together at Gough Park with Kelsi Cunniff on June 2 at 10am. Kelsi has competed around the world in Irish Dance and now has her own classes here. She is fun and knowledgeable. All ages welcome. Linda Moore will be doing an event called Owls of the Gila. Come learn about local birds with us on June 9 at 10am. Linda works with these animals and knows all you could ever want to know. Do you like art history? Come to a workshop with Sue Porter where you will learn a little about art history and how to replicate styles. This will be held June 10 at 2pm. Sue teaches here in Silver City and is excited to teach over the summer. Learn a bunch of different styles and get to make them your own. Captain Magic will be here on June 13 at 2pm, to wow us with some wonderful magic just right for kids. Captain Magic performs all over the country and has some amazing tricks. Don't miss out on the fun, come and see what the fuss is about. We are having another foam party this year. Join Ann Lincoln for foam on June 14 at 1pm at Penny Park. Anne Lincoln has been here many summers to help us celebrate. Her foam is always a big draw and lots of fun. Don't forget to wear something you can get wet in and bring a towel to dry off. The foam is safe and will wash away. Anne monitors every closely so even toddlers will have fun in these mountains of foam.

Other ongoing, weekly events offered by the Library include:

Babytime Tuesdays at 10:00 am. Stories, songs, rhymes and movement for infants 0-24 months and their caregivers; and

Storytime Wednesdays at 10:00 am. Stories, songs, and rhymes for children up to five years of age and their caregivers.
