Title: Everything you ever wanted to know about City of Rocks State Park

Description: When visiting City of Rocks State Park, you are likely awestruck by the majestic rock pillars. If you have scrambled among this rock formation on foot, you may have seen evidence of indigenous people and Spanish conquistadors. If you have hiked the park trails through desert grassland that surrounds the campground, perhaps you saw a snake or horned lizard basking in the sun, spotted a cactus wren building its nest in some spiny cactus, or observed kangaroo rat dens or pack rat middens and wondered what they were. Thousands come from all over the country (and the world) visit the park every year. The presenters hope you can join them to share their enthusiasm for this unique park.

Biographies:

Tim Geddes attended the University of North Carolina and Southern Mississippi University and has a degree in Aquaculture. He has been a volunteer at the City of Rocks since 2012.

Gabriel Medrano attended Western New Mexico University and has a degree in Forestry/Wildlife Law Enforcement. He has been working for NM State Parks for 10 years. He has been the Park Manager at City of Rocks since March of 2013.

Corrie Neighbors received her Ph.D. in Earthquake Science from the University of California, Riverside. Her doctoral work took her to southern California, Chile, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic, where she deployed seismic instruments to capture and study the effects of earthquakes.

William (Bill) Norris has taught botany, ecology, and ornithology in the WNMU Natural Sciences Department for the past 18 years. He has enjoyed exploring the Park while conducting a long-term plant inventory of the park (since 2003). Bill is an active member of the Friends of City of Rocks State Park.

Roxanne Solis-Snyder is a senior at WNMU. She will graduate in spring 2019 with a B.Sc. in Sustainable Development and a minor in Geology. Last fall, she worked as an intern to produce the new state park video for the City of Rocks. Her goal is to continue working in a state park promoting sustainable practices.

Kathy Whiteman is the Director of the WNMU Outdoor Program and holds a Ph.D. in Biology. Her goal is to use adventure-based experiences to get people outside and connected to the place where they live. The Gila, being one of the most biologically diverse areas in North America, is the perfect place to do just that!
