SANTA FE - Governor Susana Martinez made the following statement after State Engineer John D'Antonio announced he would be leaving his position to accept a job with the Army Corps of Engineers. D'Antonio has served as State Engineer since 2003, including the first nine months of the Martinez administration. With the selection process for a new permanent State Engineer nearly complete, D'Antonio will remain in his position for up to 30 days as the Governor makes a final decision on a replacement. D'Antonio met with Governor Martinez late yesterday to formally inform her that he would accept the new position and withdraw his name from consideration from the State Engineer selection process.

"I'm grateful for Mr. D'Antonio's service as State Engineer and the important work he has done on behalf of the people of New Mexico," said Governor Martinez. "As we navigate the many water issues that are central to our state, it's important that we thoughtfully and deliberately work through the process of selecting a permanent State Engineer. That process is now nearly complete, and we anticipate that it will be finalized in the next 30 days. Mr. D'Antonio has served ably as State Engineer and I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors."

"I'm thankful for the opportunity to serve as State Engineer during this critical time for water management in New Mexico," added D'Antonio. "Governor Martinez has received applications from a number of highly qualified candidates for the State Engineer position and I'm confident that she will select a long-term replacement that will serve the best interests of all New Mexicans."
