Grant County Democrats will gather for a holiday party, Wednesday, December 12, at 5:30 pm, at the AFSCME Hall. The hall is on the south side of 180 East, just east of Racetrack Road at 11786 E. 180.

"Everyone is invited to join us and bring a dessert or side dish. We will provide the main course -- turkey and ham -- and beverages," says chair Mary Hotvedt. "We also ask every Democrat to bring canned goods for the community food bank."

"A holiday party is a great way for our elected candidates to thank all who worked so hard during the fall campaigns," notes Hotvedt. She continues, "At a time of celebration, when we recognize volunteers for a job well done, we'll also honor five special people for their long-term service to the community, as well as to us Democrats." This will be the initial round of awards, which Hotvedt hopes will become an annual or semi-annual celebration of local activists' contributions.

The five honorees are Anne Owen McCormick, Christy Horcasitas Miller, Gerry Niva, Margaret L. Perez and Porfirio "Pilo" Perez, Sr. All have been mainstays in the local Democratic Party over many years. Each has worked long and hard for the Party as a whole, for individual Democratic candidates, and for the community at large.

At the end of the party and a brief business session, AFSCME will conduct its holiday raffle drawing.
