The Silver City Museum continues to host First Friday events in conjunction with Silver City MainStreet and other downtown businesses and organizations. On Friday, December 7th, the Silver City Museum, located in the historic H.B. Ailman house, will be open until 6 pm. There will be a free children's craft class held in the Museum kitchen from 4 pm to 6 pm. Join us and create a beautiful handprint holiday wreath. This will surely become a favorite holiday decoration!
The Silver City Museum has also planned a special winter exhibit that will run from December 7, 2012 through January 20, 2013. The exhibit will feature a vignette of elegantly dressed Victorian Era figures that will take the viewer on a stroll through the era. Our guests will begin with a view of a set table featuring the utensils of holiday cooking and dining from the many cultural influences of the families from our region. The vignette will transition into the attire of the day for indoor and outdoor activities. Bring the children! There will be plenty for them to do as they explore our hands-on winter camp site. Our guests will also have the opportunity to view photographs of the region and its people, snapshots and photographs will explore winter under western skies as it was from 1912 to the 1960s. Of course, toys from our collection ranging from turn of the century to the mid-1960s will also be on view
The Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visitors to explore, understand and celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of southwestern New Mexico by collecting, preserving, researching and interpreting the region's unique history.
