Five of New Mexico's most historically influential women will come alive when internationally acclaimed actress Van Ann Moore brings her Chautauqua performance "Centennial" to the Silver City Museum Society's annual meeting on Sunday, October 28, at 2:15 pm, in the Silver City Women's Club, 1715 Silver Heights Blvd. The public is cordially invited, admission-free, but donations will most gratefully be accepted.
Prior to Van Ann's performance, the Silver City Museum Society will conduct its regular annual meeting at 1 pm, where votes will be cast by qualified society members for new museum society board members. Museum Director, Tracy Spikes, will report on future initiatives at the museum, and society president Liz Mikols will summarize the society's successful past year and talk about plans for the future.
The appearance of Van Ann Moore marks the first time a professional performer of her stature will take the stage at a museum event. Her one-woman shows have won critical accolades from audiences and critics alike, from Asia to Europe, and from Israel to New Zealand. Her wide-ranging repertoire includes portrayals of not just notable New Mexico women, but of historic figures from entertainment and political history as well. With more than 35 roles to her credit in both theatre and opera, her performances often include musical elements, both popular and operatic.
In her "other professional life," she has been associated with the University of New Mexico, teaching theatre and music for over ten years, has worked with the New Mexico Endowment for the Humanities since 1986 and has taught master classes and performed at numerous festivals throughout America and abroad.
