Silver City, NM. October 13, 2011 - In recognition of national Make A Difference Day on Saturday, October 22, 2011, the Volunteer Center of Grant County is urging the community to make a difference here at home by donating food to the Grant County Food Pantry.

The Volunteer Center is collaborating with The Wellness Coalition and a statewide AmeriCorps Launch to stock the shelves of the Food Pantry, where food sources and food supplies have dwindled during these difficult economic times. The community can help in any of three ways:

· Door-to-Door Food Drive - Community Volunteers & Americorps members will pick up non-perishable food items door-to-door from Bullard to E Street and Broadway to 12th Street between 9:00 am and noon on Friday, October 21st.

· Food Pantry Drop Off - "The Wherehouse" at S.Texas and St. Vicente Streets will be open to receive non-perishable food donations from 9:00 am to noon on both Friday and Saturday, October 21st and 22nd.

· Local Food Collection Boxes - Now through Make A Difference Day, Saturday, October 22, the community may drop their non-perishable food item donations at any of the following convenient locations: Silver City Food Basket, the WNMU Library, Silver High School, and the lobby of Gila Regional Medical Center.

Grant County citizens can Make A Difference by helping the Food Pantry provide supplemental food to the increasing number of people in this county who are going hungry during the holidays and winter months. Make A Difference: Fight hunger in Grant County!
