Santa Fe (November 30, 2012) - The New Mexico Tourism Commission has scheduled its next quarterly meeting Friday, December 7, 2012, 1 to 3 pm at the Murray Hotel, 200 West Broadway Street, in Silver City.

The purpose of the Tourism Commission meeting is to update commissioners on New Mexico Tourism Department activities, and to gather tourism industry ideas on how both the commission and the department can enhance the state's tourism effort.

The Governor-appointed commission is Chairman Ted Garcia (Albuquerque), Al Lucero (Santa Fe), Deidre A. Lujan (Albuquerque), Chris Stagg (Taos Ski Valley), Randy Randall (Santa Fe), Selena Chino (Mescalero), and Marci Dickerson (Las Cruces).

"The Commission is pleased to convene in Silver City and to have the opportunity to meet with industry partners and all interested parties to receive input and learn more about the tourism issues of the region," Chairman Garcia said.

The meeting agenda includes presentations by Monique Jacobson, Secretary of the Tourism Department, and by commission members; and other items to come before the commission.

Built in 1937, the historic Murray Hotel in downtown Silver City originally had 52 guest rooms, and in 1949 an addition increased the hotel's occupancy with 48 more rooms. Proprietors Kurt and Julianna Albershardt are restoring the Murray to its original prominence.
