Santa Fe, NM – Several Legislative interim committees are meeting the week of October 22 – 26, 2012, throughout New Mexico as well as at the state capitol. Committee meetings are often held throughout the state during the interim session to enable the legislators to visit sites that are the focus of legislation, as well as to facilitate the involvement of New Mexicans outside of the Santa Fe area.
The Radioactive and Hazardous Materials Committee will meet Monday, October 22, in room 321 of the state capitol in Santa Fe at 10:00 a.m. Representative Antonio Lujan (D-Doña Ana-35) serves as chair of the committee and Senator Richard C. Martinez (D-Los Alamos, Rio Arriba & Santa Fe-5) serves as vice chair. Topics for discussion include oil and gas issues, as well as renewable Energy Transmission.
On Tuesday, October 23, the Investments and Pensions Oversight Committee will meet in room 322 of the state capitol at 9:00 a.m. Senator George K. Munoz (D-Cibola & McKinley-4) serves as chair of the committee and Representative Henry "Kiki" Saavedra (D-Bernalillo & Valencia-10) serves as vice chair. State Treasurer James B. Lewis will present on the impact of the new Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) rules regarding unfunded pension liabilities. The executive directors of the Public Employees Retirement Association and the Educational Retirement Board will discuss proposed legislation concerning pension solvency. The committee will also examine a number of other legislative proposals for the upcoming session.
The Indian Affairs Committee is meeting over a 2-day period next week; on Thursday, October 25, at the Pueblo of Santa Clara, and on Friday, October 26, at the Pueblo of San Ildefonso. The meeting begins Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the Administration Building of the Pueblo of Santa Clara and then continues Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Tewa Visitor Center at the Pueblo of San Ildefonso.
Senator John Pinto (D-McKinley & San Juan-9) and Representative James Roger Madalena (D-Bernalillo, McKinley, Rio Arriba & Sandoval-65) serve as co-chairs of the committee. Both welcome and encourage any and all members of the public to attend the meetings.
