Silver City, NM October 12, 2011 -- During the month of October, The Volunteer Center of Grant County is urging the community's participation in the Silver City Food Co-op's efforts to raise funds for the Food Pantry.

The Co-op makes it easy to donate at the register by contributing $1, $3, $5, $7, or $9 to help fight hunger in Grant County. $1 dollar buys $9 worth of food from the Roadrunner Food Bank, so a $1 donation = $9 worth of food for the Food Pantry, and a $9 donation = $81 worth of food!, which goes a long way to help fill the shelves at the Food Pantry during these difficult economic times.

According to Carolyn Smith, Outreach Coordinator of the Co-op, 2011 has seen an increase in the number of people coming to the Food Pantry, including more seniors and large families, at the same time as food sources and food supplies have dwindled. The Food Pantry needs help providing supplemental food to our community during the holidays and winter months. Stop by the Co-op during the month of October, and help combat hunger in Grant County.
