The Silver City Museum will host several activities in conjunction with the Tamal Fiesta on Saturday, December 8, 2012. All activities will be held at the Silver City Museum, located at 312 W. Broadway.
Bring the kids, big and small, to the bilingual storytelling sessions. The first one will be held from 11:00 am to 11:30 am, and another story time will be held from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm.
At 12 noon to 1:00 pm, join us for a Flores Mexicana, a paper flower making workshop led by Juanita Escobedo. In this class, for kids age 10 to adult, you will learn the art of flower making. Each flower takes about 15 minutes to make and is free!
Culture in the Kitchen: Traditional Holiday Foods presentation will take place from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Ora Rede is leading this fun presentation on traditional Hispanic foods for the holidays. You will receive recipes and learn about Nopalitos (tender cactus salad), Nochebuena (Christmas Eve salad), Biscochitos (the official cookie of New Mexico), and Horchata (a rice beverage). A demonstration on how to make tamales will also be presented.
This is a great time to bring the entire family to see the new exhibits and interactive stations for children.
