The New Mexico Film Office Announces
Winners of the 2012 NM Filmmakers Showcase and Statewide Screenings
SANTA FE- New Mexico Film Office Director Nick Maniatis announced today the winners of the 2012 New Mexico Filmmakers Showcase that took place October 12 to 14 at the Guild Cinema in Albuquerque. "We congratulate these very talented local filmmakers and look forward to showing their winning films across the state," Maniatis said. "We invite everyone to attend in viewing their work." From 37 entries, the following winners were announced in nine categories:
Best Comedy: Lobster Directed by Jocelyn Jansons
TRT 3 min. A young couple ponder the sentience of their dinner. With guests just minutes away, Bo and Raquel turn to an unusual friend to determine the fate of their captive crustacean.
Best Drama: 20 Ways Directed by Peter Kershaw
TRT 14 min. An entertaining story on challenges facing the USA today, it uses humor to expose absurdity of twenty ways to spot an illegal immigrant.
Best Horror: Vanya Directed by Scott Milder
TRT 29 min. On the eve of a massive nuclear test a Soviet soldier finds himself confronted by a strange supernatural threat.
Best Sci-Fi Bomb Squad Directed by Nick Chamberlin
TRT 83 min. A group of siblings discover they have inherited super powers from their imprisoned father.
Best Documentary Land Water People Time Directed by David Lindblom
TRT 58 min. A film about loss and preservation in northern New Mexico.
Best Wildcard Mikailwitl Directed by Rudy J. Miera
TRT 16 min. A brief glimpse into living MEXICO (Aztec) traditions and culture as embodied by Kalpulli Ehecatl.
Best Music Video Bitter Directed by Dusty Deen
TRT 6 min. A music video from the New Mexico band Shilo.
Best Experimental Miss Yummy Yummy Directed by Bryan Konefsky
TRT 5 min. This work was shot in the town of Wurzburg while the filmmaker was travelling in Germany. The final film/video was inspired by Bruce Conner's iconic deconstruction of image and celebrity – Marilyn X 5 (1973).
Best Short Opal Directed by Ramona Emerson
TRT 11 min. When Opal Shorty is beat up by the town bully, she and her friend Bunny are forced to take matters into their own hands.
The screenings are free to the pubic and will take place in the following cities:
