On Dec. 11, 1972, Apollo 17's lunar module landed on the moon with astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt aboard; during three extravehicular activities, they became the last two men to date to step onto the lunar surface.
Some of us had the rare privilege of working with Senator Schmitt when he was our Cabinet Secretary. As for me, it was an honor to know and work with him and I'm still a little star struck every time I look at the moon.
Here's Harrison's famous blue marble taken from the Apollo 17 mission – 40 years ago.
