THE ART OF PIGMENT HUNTING Workshop/ Silver City Clay Festival

w/Scott Sutton

10:00am-5:00pm

The Art of Pigment Hunting will provide two days of exploring the geological landscape for various minerals and clays that can be used for pigments, paints, plasters, clay bodies, slips, and glazes.

We will use maps of the surrounding geology (around Silver City) to help us learn about the unique aspects of this beautiful place revealing the types and locations of minerals and their formations.

The materials will be collected in an environmentally responsible manner and processed through the use of levigation, sifting, and milling to prepare for their use in the clay carving and painting workshop.  The clay plasters and mineral pigments will be used to collaboratively create a work of art on an existing adobe wall at Whiskey Creek Zocalo where these workshops are being held.

ABOUT SCOTT SUTTON

Pigment Hunter was created by artist and educator Scott Sutton for creating and documenting his work with mineral pigments in the creation of natural paint.  Scott has been empowering other artists for over 15 years with the skills and knowledge to use local materials in a sustainable manner to reduce their own ecological footprint on the natural environment.

Ellis Bullard w /Full Band

Honky Tonk Country Music

Doors: 7:00pm • $15/Adv•$20/door

Ellis Bullard – "the coolest act in Texas Music," has left no doubt that country music is still yearning for the true-blue honky-tonk experience he brings to the stage and studio.

Listen to Bullard, and you're listening to a life of barnstorming, hard living, and layers of musical influences. Ellis kicked off 2025 at the Mile 0 Festival in Key West this past January.  "I'm just a person, just a guy out there having a good time and trying to make sure other people are too," Bullard says. "I give my time to people, and I think that means a lot to them. I'm genuinely trying to forge relationships and have meaningful interactions with all the fans I meet on the road." After sharing the stage with Texas mainstays like Cody Jinks, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jason Boland, Reckless Kelly, Randy Rogers, and Whiskey Myers, Bullard has become his own. For his part, Bullard knows he's on to something, and he's enjoying the ride.

Ellis Bullard Is the New Honky-Tonk Singer That Country Fans Need to Hear

"With album titles like Piss-Hot Freightlining Country Music and Honky Tonk Ain't Noise Pollution, the Austin artist is thumbing his nose at the mainstream" ~ Rolling Stone

Max Gomez

Indie Singer/Songwriter

Doors: 7:00pm • $15/advance

Max Gomez's music is a blend of Americana and folk, with a unique sound that has garnered him comparisons to Jackson Browne and John Prine. Singer/Songwriter Max Gomez grew up in Taos, New Mexico, where he fell under the influence of country blues early on and developed a songwriting style that was uniquely his. As a budding performer, Max apprenticed in the rarefied musical micro-climate of northern New Mexico, where troubadours like Michael Martin Murphey and Ray Wylie Hubbard helped foster a Western folk sound both cosmic and country.

The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band

"the greatest front-porch blues band in the world"

Doors: 7:00pm • $20/adv • $25/door

Three-time BMA nominee's, The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, "the greatest front-porch blues band in the world" is coming to the Zócalo!

They are led by Reverend Peyton, who most consider to be the premier finger picker playing today. He has earned a reputation as both a singularly compelling performer and a persuasive evangelist for the rootsy, country blues styles that captured his imagination early in life and inspired him and his band to make pilgrimages to Clarksdale, Mississippi to study under such blues masters as T-Model Ford, Robert Belfour and David "Honeyboy" Edwards. Their last record Dance Songs For Hard Times went #1 on the Billboard, iTunes and Sirius XM Blues Charts and was produced by Grammy winner Vance Powell. The record was critically acclaimed by Rolling Stone, Relix, Popmatters, Guitar World, American Songwriter, No Depression, Glide, Wide Open Country, Paste, American Blues Scene and many more!

Their new record, Honeysuckle was produced and recorded by Reverend Peyton and mixed by six-time Grammy winner Vance Powell (Chris Stapleton, Jack White). The record features many special guests, including gospel music group The McCrary Sisters on the song "Manger," Blues Music Hall of Famer and Grammy-nominated harmonica player Billy Branch who plays on the Blind Lemon Jefferson song "Nell (Prison Cell Blues)," Grammy award-winning and IBMA's 10-time Fiddle Player of the Year Michael Cleveland plays on "Freeborn Man" and Colton Crawford from The Dead South plays banjo on "The Good Die Young."

"Kindred spirits to Reverend Peyton are John Lee Hooker and RL Burnside." - The Washington Post

"Like the Rolling Stones in the 60's, Reverend Peyton is bringing young music fans back to the blues." - American Blues Scene

Josh Glenn

Experimental indie Folk Scientist

Doors: 6pm • Free/Donations

Josh Glenn, from San Antonio, Tx isn't your typical solo singer-songwriter. Acoustic guitar strums, percussive guitar taps, and clever riffing braid into themselves as Glenn's show usually involves him building his songs live using loop pedals, making for an engrossing experience. The listener becomes entranced and enveloped into the musical process as energy is reciprocated between the moving of hips and the layering of sounds. Sometimes folky singer-songwriter, sometimes spontaneous mad-folk scientist, Josh takes you on a very personal musical journey, utilizing unique techniques along the way.
