Gather up your family and friends and come to Glenwood and join us for the 19th Whitewater Mesa Fun Kite Flying Picnic. In 2024 we were joined by 183 people and celebrated the 100 year anniversary of the Gila Wilderness with 100 small kites. There is plenty of space to celebrate the wind without fences to tangle your kite strings, and room to park for your tailgate picnic. While you are here and for a completely different experience, walk the path of one or all six of the labyrinths and a maze across the road at Whitewater Mesa Labyrinths. Also hike the Gold Dust trail into the Gila which starts at the East edge of the kite field.

PLACE: On Gila National Forest land across the road from Whitewater Mesa Labyrinths located at 355 Bursum Road, Glenwood. Second house on the left after mile marker 3 on NM 159 off Hwy 180 West, between Glenwood and Alma, NM 88039. GPS 33.3765, -108.852 NB: If using MapQuest et al be sure to enter Glenwood NM not Datil, NM after 355 Bursum Road or you will end up 35 miles away on a trail up the mountain in the Gila Wilderness!

ADMISSION: Free. There will be a free raffle drawing for a kite at 2.30pm, so be sure to pick up your free raffle ticket on arrival at the gate with the Kites banner and the labyrinth sign.

WE PROVIDE: Water, kite mending supplies, loaner kites, a porta-potty.

YOU BRING: your picnic, your kite, your laughter, the whole family and all your friends, your sunhat and something to sit on.
