Create Lasting Memories for the Entire Family

Alamogordo, NM – February 7, 2019 – Planning a family vacation can require months of saving money to afford a memorable and enjoyable getaway. However, in Alamogordo, you can create lasting memories and entertain every member of the family with fun and excitement, while sticking to a budget.

"Alamogordo offers families a unique option for vacations," said Michelle Brideaux, Communications & Marketing Administrator for the City of Alamogordo. "With a wide variety of activities and attractions, each member of the family will enjoy the experience, and you won't have the added stress of maxing out your budget. With family-friendly low-cost activities, it's a truly well-rounded and exciting vacation option—without breaking the bank."

This spring break or summer break, the City of Alamogordo recommends getting off the beaten path and thinking out of the box to enjoy outdoor activities, as well as exploring fun, out-of-the-classroom learning experiences. Suggested stops include:

All aboard – Visit the Toy Train Depot Museum to ride a small-scale train around Alameda Park. Inside the museum—a century-old depot—explore hundreds of scale model train locomotives and passenger and freight cars. Exhibits include the world's smallest scaled working train, as well as a 1,000 square-foot layout depicting Alamogordo in the 1940s.

The world-famous Alameda Park Zoo – With nearly 300 animals across 90 species, the Alameda Park Zoo is 12-acres of fun, complete with an education center, picnic area, playground and gift shop. Connecting humans to animals through audio, visual and tactical experiences, the zoo promotes education, conservation, recreation and biological research.

Space exploration – Visit the New Mexico Museum of Space History and the International Space Hall of Fame in Alamogordo to learn about the rich history of the area, devoted to science and technology of space travel. Families can view an authentic "moon rock," rare replicas of the first man-made satellites—Sputnik and Explorer—and exhibits on the history of rocketry.

Selfies galore – Whether you're posing in front of the world's largest pistachio at PistachioLand, or sledding at White Sands National Monument, you're sure to have plenty of incredible photos to remember your trip. While at PistachioLand, take a tour and learn about farming in the area, and be sure to take home delicious locally grown nuts. At White Sands, explore the iconic dunes, and enjoy camping, sledding, picnicking, and hiking.

Brand new family fun center – The newly opened Rocket City Fun Center has tons of fun for all ages. With 24 lanes of bowling, multi-level laser tag arena, arcade, full-service restaurant and sports bar, the whole family will be entertained.

"Family vacations are made special by spending time together, while exploring new experiences," added Brideaux. "In Alamogordo, there's an element of wonder that makes vacations that much more special—whether you're exploring the great outdoors or combining learning and fun at our unique attractions."
