WHAT: The University Art Museum at New Mexico State University will host two new exhibitions: The 2025 Juried Student Show and "Trinities of Heaven and Earth." Receptions for both exhibitions will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 21.
WHO: The 2025 Juried Student Show features a wide range of mediums and artistic approaches, with selected works created by NMSU students from diverse disciplines across NMSU's main campus—including both art and non-art majors. Please visit the UAM website for the full list of participating artists.The exhibition provides an important platform for emerging artists to share their creative voices with the university and local community. Students' art will be judged by artist Carlos Rosales-Silva is the creator of "Border Destroyer," a mural currently on display in the Mullennix Bridge Gallery at the UAM.
"Trinities of Heaven and Earth" draws from the UAM's extensive collection of over 2,200 Mexican retablos. The exhibition explores the spiritual and cultural importance of these sacred images. Retablos, small devotional paintings traditionally displayed in Mexican homes, served as vital expressions of Catholic faith and values within the household. The imagery of the Holy Family conveys blessings related to family life, while depictions of the Holy Trinity invoke divine guidance.
WHEN: Both exhibitions will have receptions from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 21 in Devasthali Hall at New Mexico State University, 1308 University Ave. The awards ceremony for the Juried Student Show will begin at 6 p.m. The exhibition will run through April 12. "Trinities of Heaven and Earth" will run through March 7, 2026.
WHERE: The Juried Student show will be on view in the Contemporary Gallery at NMSU's University Art Museum. The "Trinities of Heaven and Earth" exhibition will be on display in the Margie and Bobby Rankin Retablo Gallery.
VISUALS: The Juried Student Show has an array of artworks created by undergraduate and graduate students, demonstrating a diverse range of materials, techniques, and concepts. The JSS celebrates the remarkable talent and dedication of NMSU students while drawing a large and enthusiastic audience, fostering strong community engagement. "Trinities of Heaven and Earth" has a selection from the University Art Museum's extensive collection of more than 2,200 retablos.
