On October 21, 2017, George Thacker passed away at his home peacefully. His last few days were spent with his wife & kids.

George was born in Bachiniva Mexico in 1935 then later moved to Alma, NM where he grew up. He was drafted and spent time in the military and in 1961 he married Gladys Day. After he returned from the military, he worked for his brother-in-law John McKeen for many years on the WS ranch and then was able to establish his own cattle herd.

George worked for the County as a Supervisor for many years. He also served two terms as Catron County Commissioner. He worked for James Hamilton Construction in Morenci, AZ for six years then transferred to Chino Mines where he retired.

George was a devoted husband and loving father who worked hard to make sure his family was taken care of. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren & great grandchildren. George will be missed by many, but will always remain in our heart.

George is survived by his wife, Gladys Day Thacker, his son Blaine Thacker, his son (Chino) George Troy Thacker and wife Cheryl, and daughter Kim Kindle and husband Ken Kindle. Six grandchildren, Tyrell Blaine Thacker and wife Arianna (Las Cruces, NM), George Tanner Thacker and Bianca (Silver City, NM), Candis Thacker (Phoenix, AZ), Johna Cooper and husband Coye Cooper (Las Cruces, NM), Mackenzie Kindle (Las Cruces, NM) & Braden Kindle (Honolulu, Hawaii). Three great grandchildren, Chance Cooper (Las Cruces, NM), Coye Cooper (Las Cruces, NM) and Thomas Harris Thacker (Las Cruces, NM). Brother Charlie Thacker (Cliff, NM) and Sister Alice Estrada (Reserve, NM)

George was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Isabel Thacker (Glenwood, NM), brothers Billy Thacker (Glenwood, NM), and Jerry Thacker (Cliff, NM), sisters Lupe George (Glenwood, NM), Antonia McKeen (Glenwood, NM), Lydia Kiehne (Las Cruces, NM) and Bonnie Milligan (Reserve, NM).

Services will be on October 26 at 11:00 am at Bright Funeral Chapel, "Traditional Services and Care for your family and friends," 210 W. College Avenue, Silver City, NM. Phone 575-388-1911.
