Irene Jacquez Chavez, 80, a longtime Deming resident passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 10 o'clock in the morning at Baca's Funeral Chapel. The final interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Deacon Bill Holguin will be officiating.

Irene was born January 21, 1945 in Lordsburg, New Mexico to Gilbert Jacquez and Martha Porras. Irene began her career in education as a teacher's aide for kindergarten students. She began her teaching at Lewis Flats School which is now the Adobe Deli Steakhouse. Irene later continued her career with Bell School and retired after 30 years. She touched many families lives throughout the community with the many children she had taught. Irene was a very classy and professional woman and always dressed her best and had a love for her many shoes that had to match with every outfit. She enjoyed sewing, listening to music, visiting casinos as well as going out to eat a nice meal. Irene also enjoyed watching baseball, especially when her Los Angeles Dodgers were playing and even more so watching her grandchildren play baseball. What did she look forward to most was her Sunday dinners with her family. Irene will be very much missed by many.

She is survived by her 2 daughters, Margaret (Tom) Arenibas and Teresa (Curtis) Tackitt; 2 siblings, Gilbert (Melissa) Jacquez and Olivia (Frank) Chacon; 4 grandchildren, Sara Arenibas, Marc (Susy) Arenibas, Nathaniel Tackitt and Audrey Tackitt; 4 great-grandchildren, Jazlyn Baca, Kavin Iyer, Elijah Arenibas, and Gianna Arenibas, her niece and nephews, Rachel, Chris, Michael, Steve, and Conrad; as well as her 3 great nieces, Cassandra, Aileen and Kaitlyn and a great nephew, David.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents Gilbert and Martha Jacquez; her spouse, Gerald Chavez and her 2 brothers, Conrad Jacquez and Noel Jacquez and his wife Pauline.
