garlow 02James D. Garlow, 97 passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 7 in Silver City. He was born in Montreal, Canada on November 8, 1921 to Agnus and Mabel Garlow. He married his sweetie Helen Adams on October 29, 1924, they celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary with family and friends last October. James served in the Army in World War II from 1942-1944. Once he was back home in Michigan, he started his own construction business. They brought four children into this world, James Donald, Thomas Richard, Gerald Lee and Susan Ann. In 1965, James and Helen moved their family to New Mexico for James' health. James loved spending time with is family fishing, camping, and using his metal detector. Being a member of sixth Street Baptist Church for 40 years, he was an usher, teller and teacher of R.A.'s. When the decision was made to build anew church, James and many other members of the congregation helped build Indian Hills Baptist Church, where he attended until his health prevented it. He will be greatly missed by his family and grandchildren, oh how he loved his grandchildren!

James is survived by his loving wife, Helen, his children, Thomas Garlow (Lynn) of AZ; Gerald Garlow (Debra) of Tor C; Susan Baker (Jesse) of Silver City; and a sister Pearl Oetjens of FL. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, Agnus and Mabel Garlow; his brother Jack and his son James. James will be laid to rest at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
