Kenneth Francis Fischer, 92, a Silver City resident, passed away on November 27, 2012 in Silver City.
Visitation was held on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 5 O'clock in the evening at Baca's Funeral Chapels with the Holy Rosary recited by Deacon Bill Holguin. The Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Friday, November 30, 2012 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Rod Nichols officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment with Veteran Honors followed at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery where he was laid to rest alongside his first wife Marianne.
He was born on December 15, 1919 to Mary Elizabeth Demerath and Wenzel Fischer in Appleton, Wisconsin. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II and remained active in the Navy Reserve for many years. During this tenure he served in the American Theatre as well as the Asiatic-Pacific Exercises. He served on vessels on the East Coast, the Great Lakes, Puerto Rico and Guadalcanal. He served on the Admirals Staff at the Norfolk Naval Airbase, VA. Wisconsin had always been home but moved west and lived in Arizona for 2 ½ years before making Silver City home in 1962. Kenneth established Sierra Communications in Silver City serving the entire southwest with new technology in electronic communication services. This company is now the third family generation of management. He was a communicant of the Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his son, David Fischer and wife Sue of Silver City and Lee Kenneth Fischer of Larson, Wisconsin; daughter, Cathy M. Cushing and husband Michael of Sedro Wooley, WA; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Marianne N. Fischer in 1985 and Estella Fischer in 2010; 2 brothers, Sylvester and Clarence; 2 sisters, Amelia and Cecilia and a grandson, Kenneth B. Fischer.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Marine Corps League Gaffney-Oglesby Detachment 1328.
