Lesley Ann Freeman age 77 passed away January 21st,2025, in the hospital in El Paso Texas. She had many health issues over the years and was very courageous. She was born April 23 rd., 1947 in Tularosa New Mexico to Claude and Doris Skaggs. Ann lived in Tularosa until the age of 15 when her father died who was preceded in death by her mother. She then lived for 4 years at the Portales Children's Home before returning to Tularosa to live with her Uncle Dewey and Aunt Louise along with her siblings David, Billy, and Susie and cousins Terry Skaggs, Donny Skaggs and Kay Skaggs. Ann spent the last 33 years in Silver City New Mexico and the last 5 and a half years of her life at Fort Bayard Medical Center.
The family is very thankful to them for providing her with good care during this time. The family is also thankful for Connie and Eve who cared for Ann in her apartment before she went to Fort Bayard. They are thankful to Heather Ryan who would spend time with her and take her out to lunch at Dairy Queen (a lot). Ann loved Elvis Presley and enjoyed singing to his songs. She loved cats, she also loved going to second hand stores with her good friend Rosemary. Ann was a very quiet person, but she would come alive while playing board games with the family during holidays or celebrations. We would laugh so much. She collected a lot of things some of her most favorite were stuffed toys, coffee cups, and Christmas décor. She loved to shop for clothing. She loved going to Walmart. Before cell phones I would drop her off and come back later and never be able to find her so they would call her over the intercom.
She was preceded in death by her father Claude Skaggs, her mother Doris Skaggs and her brother William Paul Skaggs (Billy). She is survived by her daughter Kim Hernandez and husband Michael of Silver City N.M. Her brother David Skaggs and wife Jeanie of Macon Missouri. Her sister Susie Hutchins and husband Jeff of Silver City New Mexico. Her granddaughter Mariah Arambula and Izaiah Arizaga of Silver City N.M. Her great great-grandson Dimitri Arizaga. Her granddaughter Candice Arambula and River Jordan of Silver City N.M. Her great-granddaughter Samara Montoya and great-grandson William Jordan. Her niece Bianca Rogers and husband Jay of Fairbanks Alaska. Her nephew J.D. Hutchins and wife Tahlia of Grant Valkaria Florida. Her niece Ashley Dupert and husband Jared of Sioux Falls South Dakota. Her nephew Aaron Skaggs and wife Rachel of Colorado Springs. Her sister in-law Cindy Skaggs of Sioux Falls South Dakota, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Ann and Kim lived with Susie, Jeff, Bianca and J.D.at different times throughout her life. J.D. says she was his first roommate while living in Albuquerque N.M. She definitely had a soft spot for J.D. when he was young, she spoiled him. One of my favorite memories is her pushing him on his red motorcycle down the hill while living in Silver City N.M. She will be missed.
