Holguin Ruly

Raul Holguin "Ruly", 70, a resident of Silver City, peacefully went with the Lord in his sleep on Monday, November 12, 2012 with his wife and daughter by his side.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:30 in the morning at Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley, New Mexico. Funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 p.m. with Father Roberto Barreto officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will be held at 2 O'clock in the afternoon at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery with full Military Honors.

He was born in Santa Rita, New Mexico on July 16, 1942 to Miguel and Josepha (Apodaca) Holguin. He was raised in Hurley where he had many memorable times of his childhood. He graduated from Cobre High and served in the United States Army Security Agency and 82nd Airborne. He then attended the Foreign Services Institute in Washington, DC and became a Communications Programming Officer for the Department of State. As a Diplomat he served in the Dominican Republic, Malaysia, Belgium, Liberia, West Africa, Brazil, Egypt, Austria, Uganda, Indonesia, Sainai, Pakistan, Argentina, Zaire and Mexico City. Besides English and Spanish he spoke several other languages which included Malay, Indonesia, Portuguese, French and Russian. As a prominent member of the community and held in the highest esteem, he was a member of the VFW Post 3347, American Legion Post 18, Kiwanis, NARFE and a volunteer at Ft. Bayard Medical Center for 15 years and many other organizations both in the United States and abroad.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lena and daughter Carolyn Holguin of the family home; Sons: Raul Holguin, Jr. M.D. and wife Lauren Austin from Venice, FL, Rudolph Holguin from Ft. Wayne, IN, Christopher Holguin and wife Laurie from Dallas, TX., Granddaughters: Alexandra and Nicole Holguin, Brothers: Sammy Holguin (Rose) from Anaheim, CA., Michael Holguin (Terri) from Arenas Valley, Sisters: Almira Luna (Richard) from Hurley, Rufina Gomez (Manuel) from Rio Rancho, Aunts: Petra and Ella Holguin and many nephews and niece. He will be greatly missed by all. May he rest in peace. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Linda Gill, nephew Isaiah Gill, in-laws-Ray and Jovita Horcasitas and brother-in-law Ruben Horcasitas.

Pallbearers will be Raul Jr., Rudolph and Christopher Holguin, Bobbie Horcasitas, Benny Placencio and Juan Carlos Maynes. Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of his family, friends and members of the VFW, American Legion, Kiwanis and NARFE.
