SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Wildlife's Share with Wildlife program will begin accepting proposals on Feb. 2, 2026, for non-game wildlife-focused projects

Projects must take place in New Mexico with a planned start date on or after Feb. 15, 2027. All project proposals are due by 4 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time on April 10, 2026.

The Share with Wildlife program was initiated in the early 1980s and welcomes proposals for projects in four categories: habitat enhancement; biological and ecological research; wildlife rehabilitation and wildlife education. The program has consistently funded between nine and 11 projects during each funding cycle. More information regarding projects funded over the past 10 years is available on the Share with Wildlife "Reports" page.

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Wildlife is now accepting applications from interested members of the public to serve on the Public Land User (Habitat) Stamp Program Citizen Advisory Committee.

Members will be appointed to the Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) by the State Game Commission.

The CAC is a volunteer working group that collaborates with the Department to support the Public Land User (Habitat) Stamp Program. Funds generated from the sale of Public Land User stamps are used for various conservation projects across the state. Members provide citizen advice to program and project managers from the Department, the Bureau of Land Management, and the United States Forest Service. They also ensure that the interests and perspectives of New Mexicans are represented in conservation projects on federal public lands across the state that utilize Public Land User Stamp funds.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – January 26, 2026 – As previously announced, the Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands (NF & NGs) is planning implementation on the Magdalena Ranger District Hop Patterson Prescribed (Rx) Fire & Mountainair Ranger District Pueblo Colorado Prescribed (Rx) Fire Piles as early as today, pending all required approvals. Work will continue on these projects as multi-day operations as weather conditions allow.

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Supreme Court today issued a precedent-setting opinion eliminating legal claims for damages for the loss of a spouse's affections in a marriage.

The Court's unanimous opinion provides the legal reasoning for a ruling from the bench last August ordering a trial court to dismiss a civil lawsuit that sought to hold a New Mexico resident liable for the breakup of a Colorado man's marriage. The Colorado couple are now divorced.

The ruling by the state's highest court abolished the "tort of alienation of affections" by overturning a legal precedent from a 1923 decision by the Court in the case Birchfield v. Birchfield, which first recognized alienation of affections as a civil wrongdoing or tort in New Mexico for which a person could be held liable for damages.

In all construction zones, motorists are asked to reduce speed, obey posted signs, and use extreme caution, as well as continuing to be cautious of heavy equipment and construction personnel in the area. PLEASE NOTE: Conditions are subject to change without notice. Double fines for speeding in work zones may be in effect.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – January 23, 2026 – The Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands are preparing to strategically implement multiple prescribed fires in the coming weeks across the forest and grasslands. See attached maps.

We estimate this work to continue through the remaining winter months into spring as weather conditions allow. Prescribed (Rx) fire helps reduce overgrown vegetation to protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from catastrophic wildfires.

SANTA FE — New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) has launched a first-of-its-kind capital outlay dashboard that provides the public, policymakers, and local governments with transparent, interactive access to funding information for schools, roads, parks, water systems and other infrastructure projects. 

The user-friendly dashboard is part of DFA's Capital Projects System. The platform tracks legislative appropriations for critical projects, detailing funding, expenditures, and progress. By allowing users to monitor project status and ensure compliance with appropriation reversion periods, the dashboard reinforces fiscal responsibility in the development of community assets.
