Washington, D.C. - Today, key energy leaders in Congress are expected to introduce a resolution to end the tax placed on natural gas production signed into law by former President Biden. Sen. John Hoeven (R-North Dakota) and Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas) along with Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) are leading the effort to target the tax program within the Environmental Protection Agency as part of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA.) The punitive measure of the IRA required extra reporting and fees associated with natural gas production.

“Sen. Hoeven and Rep. Pfluger should be applauded for their determination to eliminate this punishing tax. Forcing Americans to pay more to heat their homes is a cruel vestige of the failed Biden agenda that prioritized green ideologies over common sense,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director of Power The Future. "Thankfully. there’s now new leadership in Washington, and with energy champions like Hoeven and Pfluger spearheading this critical bill through Congress and getting it to President Trump’s desk ASAP, American families can start to feel some relief from the pain of the past administration. The days of punishing American energy are done. Lowering the cost of energy will help usher in the golden age of America which President Trump promised, which Congressional leaders like Hoeven and Pfluger can deliver, and which American families deserve. It all starts with energy.”

The Inflation Reduction Act was passed by the Democrat-controlled Congress in 2022 with no Republican votes.  Once signed into law, President Biden admitted “we should have named it what it was”. Inflation in the year 2022 averaged 8.3%, the highest in over 40 years.  The IRA cost Sen. Joe Manchin (D, West Virginia) his seat and likely lost the Democrats control of the U.S. Senate.
