They are not the problem. We are the problem. More accurately I should probably say we are the cause of the problems that are plaguing our government and our country these days. We have allowed politicians and their friends in the media and corporate America to lie to us, to sow division among us based upon some demographic characteristics such as race or gender identity, to take away our freedoms, to take away our children. The list goes on.

Those with power, whether inherited, taken, or given freely, are humans. Humans are imperfect and even those with the best of intentions can fall victim to the temptations and trappings of power. It then becomes about increasing their power or their wealth more than it does about serving. That's what leads to the lying. I watched a snippet of an interview with a congresswoman from Massachusetts being interviewed by a liberal talk show host. The host posed a question about what needs to be done to secure our southern border. She responded simply that the border is secure and there is not a problem. She said it multiple times even though the host was incredulous. It is a bald-faced lie that would have made Karine Jean Pierre proud.

She certainly is not the only one that will lie to our face to achieve some personal goal. But it's not their fault; it's our fault. Name a politician that has served more than one term in office that does not lie to us regularly and blatantly. I'll wait. It's hard to do, isn't it? If I ask you to name politicians that you know have lied to us and give me specific examples, I'll bet you could talk for an hour. That's sad.

But it is our fault. We continue to re-elect the people that lied to us and seek to rule us. We stay quiet when we are told that we are a racist country or that we are committing atrocities against transgenders even though they can provide no proof of either one. When they lied to us we continue to go on with our lives without holding them or those that support them openly accountable. We keep our tongues when someone makes a statement that we know to be a falsehood because we don't want confrontation. So the lies become more frequent, more blatant, and ultimately, harmful. We lose our freedoms because of it.

It is our fault, but we also have the opportunity to correct our behavior.
