Regional Medical Center (GRMC) would like to announce that their very own Trauma Nurse Coordinator, Roberta “Bertie” Berry has been appointed to be Chair of the Trauma Performance Improvement Committee for the New Mexico Trauma System. The committee is part of the New Mexico Trauma Process Improvement Plan and whose mission is to optimize care that is being delivered to patients in New Mexico. This will be Bertie’s second year as a part of this committee to represent Level 4 Trauma centers.

“GRMC earned its designation as a Level 4 Trauma Center in January 2021,” states Bertie. “Being a Level 4 Trauma Center ensures that our staff is trained in trauma standards. In addition, our processes and resources are maximized to recognize, stabilize, and treat our traumatically injured patients for optimal outcomes.” Since taking on the role of Trauma Nurse Coordinator, Bertie has become a member of the following committees: Chair of the ReTRAC Subcommittee of Injury Prevention, Chair of the NM State Trauma Nurse Coordinator Forum, Vice Chair of the Southwest ReTRAC Committee, EMS Region 2 Regional Trauma Advisory Committee, local Emergency Planning Committee, ESO Trauma Registry New Product Sterring Committee.

Bertie has represented Gila Regional Medical Center in other ways such as being appointed to the American College of Surgeons Committee - Trauma’s Rural Advisory Council in October 2021 and invited to be an Expert Panel member at the American College of Surgeons Committee - Trauma in March 2023. Over the last two years, Bertie has led over 494 Stop the Bleed Trainings and equipped most classrooms in Grant County with Stop the Bleed kits.
