Silver City, NM – On Wednesday, December 4th, the Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC) Auxiliary President Linda Fisher, Auxiliary Member Annette Pena, and Cancer Center Manager, Mike Torres, received a generous donation from Harrison Schmitt Elementary School. The students at Harrison Schmitt Elementary are divided into houses and each house was tasked with a creating a project. The Altruismo house created a fundraising program called "Pennies from Heaven" to support cancer patients.
Over the course of a month, students collected spare change, with all houses enthusiastically joining the effort. In total, 340 students raised an impressive $838.41, which they chose to donate to the GRMC Auxiliary. The Auxiliary provides free lunches to the Cancer Center patients every day and this generous donation will help supply over 100 lunches for the cancer patients.
GRMC is deeply grateful for the support from the community and is inspired by the compassion and dedication of these young students. Their efforts demonstrate the powerful impact that even the smallest acts of kindness can have.
