30YearsHidalgo Medical Services (HMS) proudly commemorates its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of unwavering commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of residents in Hidalgo and Grant counties. Established in 1995, HMS has grown into a cornerstone of community health, providing comprehensive medical, dental, behavioral health, family support, and senior services. Hidalgo Medical Services is a nonprofit healthcare organization dedicated to providing high-quality, comprehensive healthcare services to the residents of Hidalgo and Grant counties. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, HMS offers a wide range of services, including primary medical care, dental care, behavioral health services, family support, and senior services. With a focus on accessible and affordable care, HMS strives to improve the health and well-being of the communities it serves.

Over the years, HMS has significantly broadened its reach and services to meet the evolving needs of the community. Currently, HMS serves over 14,000 unique patients annually, accounting for more than 70,000 visits across its 19 locations, which include 12 clinical sites, five senior centers, and two administrative offices.

The organization's multidisciplinary team comprises over 46 licensed providers and 225 dedicated staff members. They deliver a wide array of services, from primary medical care to behavioral health support, ensuring that comprehensive care is accessible to all community members.

HMS's commitment to excellence is reflected in its performance metrics. According to the Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Uniform Data System (UDS), HMS's primary care services ranked among the top five in New Mexico for quality outcomes in 2023.

In response to the growing demand for behavioral health services, HMS has expanded its behavioral health offerings. The Tu Casa facility, operated by HMS, provides many services such as substance abuse therapy, peer support, psychiatric dual health services, and more. Recently, HMS received two additional grants to increase behavioral health services to both counties specializing in youth, senior citizens, and assisting patients in transition from detention centers. HMS is planning to introduce a mobile crisis response and 14-day stabilization services in the near future.

Reflecting on this milestone, Dr. Dan Otero, CEO of HMS, stated, "Our 30-year journey has been defined by a steadfast dedication to serving our community. As we celebrate this anniversary, we remain committed to advancing healthcare services and addressing the evolving needs of our patients."

As HMS looks to the future, it aims to continue its legacy of compassionate care, innovative services, and community collaboration to enhance the quality of life for all residents in Southwestern New Mexico.
