On Monday November 17, the newly elected town councilor for District 4 Victor Nanez spoke to a group of voters. When asked why he ran, he said, "I saw a need for a positive change to help our citizens have a better life."
Nanez was born in Santa Rita and has spent most of his life in Silver City.
"Working for Engineers Inc., I was involved in overseeing the construction of the Visitor Center, Downtown Lighting, and installation of several bridges including the Big Ditch Bridge.
"I have 27 years' experience in this area. Working with Ms. Priscilla Lucero of the Council of Governments, we have acquired funds from local, state, and federal agencies. The grants were used for water and sewer systems and upgrades or new construction of roads."
When asked how he campaigned, he said, "I knocked on a lot of doors, and I'd hear click, click, click as people opened multiple locks. One woman told that's not how it used to be. "I care about other people and want to work to improve conditions."
Nanez is a man of deep faith and credits God with his winning. He's a member of the Harvest Church. He concluded by saying, "I will represent District 4 to the best of my ability."
