Single Socks, a Silver City non-profit thrift store, announced that it has awarded $51,000 in grants to four Grant County anti-hunger organizations, and a local school district, according to a news release issued by the store. The grants were awarded as part of the organization's Spring 2025 Grant Cycle.
Since its inception in 2009, Single Socks has given away over $711,000 to local food pantries, prepared meals, schools, and other food distribution organizations that serve families in need.
The $51,000 in grant awards is the second-largest amount in the store's history, according to the news release. Catherine Cousland, store manager of Single Socks, praised several of the store's different stakeholders, including its staff.
"As the need for food sustainability continues to grow in Grant County, we are deeply grateful for the continued generous donations that help us meet the demands of supporting our community's anti-hunger projects," Cousland said. "This vital work would not be possible without the unwavering commitment of our dedicated volunteers and staff, whose passion and service are at the heart of all we do."
According to the news release issued by Single Socks, the following organizations were awarded grants:
Grant County Community Food Pantry (coordinated by The Commons Center for Food Security and Sustainability) -- for purchase of food for distribution to families in need.
St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish of Silver City -- for purchase of food for distribution to families.
Silver Consolidated School District – for food box distributions -- one each prior to the 2025 Christmas and 2026 spring breaks -- which will help alleviate food insecurity at times when school-based meal programs are not available.
Supporting People in Need ("SPIN") -- for hot meals provided through SPIN's "day program," and at their transitional house.
Frontier Food Hub (a project of the National Center for Frontier Communities) – Supporting local food pantries by supplementing federal commodities with fresh, bulk, and locally-grown foods.
