Single Socks, a Silver City non-profit thrift store, announced that it has awarded $51,500 – the largest amount in its 15-year history – in grants to five Grant County anti-hunger organizations and one public school, according to a news release issued by the store. The grants were awarded as part of the organization's Fall 2024 Grant Cycle.

Since its inception in 2009, Single Socks has given away over $660,000 to local food pantries, prepared meals, schools, and other food distribution organizations that serve families in need.

The $51,500 in grant awards is the largest amount in the store's history, according to the news release. Jeff Goin, board president of Single Socks, says that this giving is the result of a collective effort.

"Everyone wishes, of course, that there was no need for anti-hunger work," Goin said. "At the same time, frankly, I'm blown away that we continue to be able to provide support at this level. Everyone in the community played a part in this success: our volunteers, our customers, our employees, our donors. As long as there's a need, I know that, collectively, the Single Socks community will continue to step up."

According to the news release issued by Single Socks, the following organizations were awarded grants:

Grant County Community Food Pantry (coordinated by The Commons Center for Food Security and Sustainability) -- for purchase of food for distribution to families in need.

St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish of Silver City -- for purchase of food for distribution to families.
The Silver City Gospel Mission -- to improve the quality and quantity of food served at their soup kitchen and distributed through the Gospel Mission's food box program.

Supporting People in Need ("SPIN") -- for hot meals provided through SPIN's "day program" and at their transitional house.

Mimbres Valley Health Action League -- for purchase of food for distribution to families.

Aldo Leopold Charter School – for high-quality, locally-sourced meals full of fresh fruits and vegetables for students of the school.
