To all those affected by the Trout fire, the community at large and our partners,
The Commons will be here now and in the long run recovery efforts to help assist in food resources for our community members across Grant County and other nearby communities affected by the fires. As an organization rooted in this community, we deeply care about supporting people. We will be supportive in any way that we can to help provide food security and community support through our organization and in partnership with others. We are in communication with the Red Cross as well to support their efforts in leading the emergency response.
On that note, it is important that we allow emergency services to do what they are brought in to help with and we do not want to complicate or interfere with clogging up the system. Again, we will be here for the long run during recovery efforts.
Here is how we can help now:
Anyone who is already receiving monthly food distributions through any of our sites, like Mimbres, and is evacuated, can come to our Silver City location at 501 E. 13th St. and visit the Choose Your Own ("shop" for your food) or come inside for emergency food (smaller bag with foods that may need to be cooked/prepared) bags or snack bags (ready to eat foods/snacks for those without ability to cook).
Please let us know your part of the fire and ability to prepare foods.
Anyone in Grant County who needs food assistance, fire evacuees or otherwise can also sign up to request support regardless of the impact of the fire.
We have a calendar of events on our website, which includes our once a month Community Dinner- the next one being June 27th at 5 pm. These are free and open to anyone.
We do have a commercial kitchen if there are additional fire support resources needed by the office of OEM, US Forest Service, Red Cross, or other emergency services, etc. Please use this form for request or email with "Kitchen-Fire Support" in the subject line to
We can continuously take donations of non-perishable/ non-expired foods for community members in need.
What we can't do:
We are not a cooling center or associated with a cooling center. Unfortunately, our building is quite hot in the summer.
We cannot take in perishable food at this time due to limited refrigeration and freezer storage. We will make updates or specific requests if this changes.
If you have any questions please contact our office by calling 575-388-2988 or emailing
