SILVER CITY, NM – Western New Mexico University (WNMU) proudly announces its 2024 Alumni Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, taking place on Friday, October 4th, at Light Hall. The event begins with a reception at 2:00 PM, followed by the formal induction ceremony at 3:00 PM. This annual event celebrates the achievements of WNMU alumni who have made significant contributions to their communities, professions, and alma mater.

This year, WNMU will honor the following alumni:

· Edna M. Reyes (Class of 2012 & 2014) – A respected attorney and advocate for domestic violence survivors in New Mexico's Sixth Judicial District.


· Carolyn R. Castillo (Class of 2019 & 2022) – Accomplished business leader and former WNMU student-athlete, active in community service and youth development.


· Armando "Jeep" Gutierrez (Posthumous) (Class of 1950) – A decorated U.S. Navy veteran and trailblazing coach who left a lasting legacy in Texas high school athletics.


· Manuela Baca Jenkins (Class of 1972) – A pioneering educator who established innovative Chicano Studies programs in Lansing, Michigan, and contributed significantly to social science education.


· Priscilla C. Lucero (Class of 1986) – Executive Director of the Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments, a leader in regional development and economic advancement.


· David S. Cantu (Class of 2007) – Alderman for San Elizario, Texas, and advocate for regional cooperation, known for his contributions to education and public service.


· Gilberto Arizaga, M.D. (Class of 1969) – A board-certified pediatrician and dermatologist who integrates cultural healing concepts into his medical practice.


· Logan L. White (Class of 1984) – Senior Advisor and Director of Player Personnel for the San Diego Padres, whose contributions to Major League Baseball span decades.


· Luis M. Terrazas (Class of 1993) – State Representative for Grant County since 2021, known for his entrepreneurial success and commitment to community development.


· Alex C. Brown (Class of 1996) – Longtime Silver City Town Manager and finance director, recognized for his leadership and dedication to public service


· James R. Smith (Class of 1953 & 1956) – Former WNMU basketball coach and creator of the iconic "Great Race," whose lifelong service continues to inspire Mustang pride.


· Marshall A. Moore (Posthumous) (Class of 1962 & 1967) – A visionary educator and former public-school administrator, remembered for his dedication to reshaping the educational landscape.

In addition to the Hall of Fame inductions, the event will include special recognition of Golden Circle Graduates of WNMU, alumni who graduated 50 years ago or more.

"We are thrilled to honor this extraordinary group of alumni who have exemplified the spirit and values of WNMU," said WNMU President Joseph Shepard. "Their achievements reflect the impact of a WNMU education and inspire future generations of students."

Following the ceremony, the Alumni Association General Assembly Meeting & Social will be held at 5:00 PM at the Ogas Home in Silver City.

The weekend's celebrations will continue with the Homecoming Parade on Saturday, October 5th, at 9:00 AM in downtown Silver City, followed by the Alumni & Friends Tailgate at 11:00 AM and the WNMU Football Game at 2:00 PM, where Hall of Fame inductees will be presented at halftime.
