Saturday, September 26, 2020, 12:00pm - 01:00pm |
WNMU instructor and professional mariachi musician (not necessarily in that order), Michael Acosta, will present a brief overview of the history of mariachi as a genre and icon of Mexican and Mexican-American identity, as well as present some of the best loved pieces of this musical form and tradition.
Michael T. Acosta is a classically trained musician and trumpet player who has been playing for more than 20 years and has been performing steadily for 15 of them. He has performed in almost every genre of music and with many ensemble types including wind symphonies, orchestras, and jazz and chamber ensembles. He currently holds a performing spot and management position in a professional mariachi orchestra.
So prepare to gladden your hearts and sing and dance along to some of the most cherished pieces of music from this vibrant expression of our diverse Southwestern culture.
