On July 24, 2025, President Trump signed Executive Order (EO) 14321 titled, "Ending Crime and Disorder on America's Streets." Press statements from the White House say the EO aims to address endemic vagrancy, disorderly behavior, sudden confrontations, and violent attacks that have made U.S. cities unsafe.

With the state of New Mexico one of the worst per capita when it comes to several categories of crime, and Albuquerque's violent crime rate 273% higher than the national average, this EO couldn't come at a better time.

NMBC President & CEO Carla Sonntag was interviewed by KOAT 7 News and said, “People in Albuquerque don't feel safe anymore, and they're tired of living like this. It's particularly hard on businesses that are having to hire their own security. They are paying thousands of dollars monthly for the security, but also to take care of the vandalism." Find out more and catch Carla on KOAT 7 below!https://www.koat.com/article/trump-signs-executive-order-on-homelessness/65545025  for the video below

Unfortunately, ACLU attorneys and other "homeless advocates" are immediately lining up against the goals of the new EO. The other obstacle to implementing the crime-fighting initiatives will come from elected officials. Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller is unlikely to accept any help from President Trump. In fact, Keller has recently said that as long as he is mayor, Albuquerque will continue prioritizing the "rights" of those breaking laws over the rights and safety concerns of law-abiding citizens. We'll see how the public feels about that in November, when the job of mayor is on the ballot.
