House Democrats on Layoffs at Sandia Labs
Albuquerque, N.M. - New Mexico House Democrats issued the following statement in response to news that Sandia National Laboratory plans to lay-off up to 510 employees this fall, amidst ongoing chaos in Washington, D.C.:
"This is a devastating blow to the city of Albuquerque, our state, and our country. Our National Laboratories provide good paying jobs for nearly 30,000 New Mexicans—as plumbers, custodians, electricians, administrative assistants, engineers, scientists, and more. For generations, these jobs have provided a path to financial stability and opened up opportunities for countless New Mexico families.
Now, President Donald J. Trump, who campaigned on the promise of economic prosperity, is cutting jobs that support our families, strengthen our economy, and protect the interests of the American people, so he can give bigger tax breaks to his billionaire friends."
