"Scandalous Universalism," at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

This video by Rev. Angela Herrera of the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque will discuss Universalism—the idea that all are saved—which has been an outrageously controversial idea. But what does it even mean in today’s Unitarian Universalism? Is there any cosmic/divine justice?

"We have the word universalism right up front in the name of our faith tradition, Unitarian Universalism. We get so accustomed to hearing it that it would be easy to either take it for granted or to forget about it. But universalism is actually a pretty radical concept. Traditionally, universalism is the belief that a truly loving God would never condemn anyone to eternal hell, and since God is loving, therefore everyone is saved,"  Rev. Herrera said.

Rev. Angela Herrera holds a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard University. She has completed a chaplaincy internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and a parish internship at First Parish in Concord, Massachusetts. She is the author of the Skinner House meditation manual, “Reaching for the Sun”, and co-creator of “Lifting Our Voices: Readings in the Living Tradition.”

Rev. Herrera is fluent in Spanish as a second language. When she is not at church, she can be found biking, hiking, running, or putting green chile on things.

Nancy Stephens will lead a discussion after the video.
