Domestic Violence Training Registration Deadline

El Refugio Inc. will offer its annul 24 hours of domestic violence training for law enforcement, October 25-27. Registration deadline is October 10. Who Should Attend? Law enforcement officers, victim advocates, prosecutors, nurses, dispatch, mental health providers, sexual assault workers, first responders and others working with the domestic violence population.
Quintin D. McShan, certified as a master in domestic violence by the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy, will provide16 advanced LEUs to law enforcement personnel.
The first day - Oct. 25, 2017, will begin at noon with lunch and run until 5 p.m. The topic is the importance of self care, trauma-informed practices and substance abuse in relation to domestic violence.
The second day - Oct. 26, 2017, will go from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with instruction on case study, review of video and police reports of DV case files, responses to DV, dynamics of DV, arrest decisions, probably cause, self-defense, predominant aggressor, key legal and liability issues and more.
The third day - Oct. 27, 2017, will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Timothy Aldrich will present on DV case law; from the Sixth Judicial District Attorney's Office with DV prosecutor Matthew Bradburn and District Attorney Francesca Estevez will present on DV felony cases; US Attorney Staff will present on federal prosecutions; Sgt. Eric Threlkeld of Eddy County Sheriff's Department will present on strangulation. El Refugio staff will provide an overview of services.
