Celebrate a fabulous 4th in Glenwood

If you’re longing for the Good Old Days, head to Glenwood for the 4th of July festivities. It starts with an old-fashioned 4th of July parade at 5 p.m. on the 4th, featuring local equestrian units, floats from area businesses and organizations and lots of Red, White and Blue.


This year’s theme is Honoring the Centennial of the Gila Wilderness as well as God Bless America. Valera Hollimon is the Grand Marshall, representing the best of the Glenwood Tradition of Service to her community.

Following the parade, there will be a horseshoe tournament at Glenwood Community Park and vendors will be on hand offering both food and fun. The best Fireworks show in Southwestern New Mexico, The Hubert Schmieder Memorial Fire Works, will begin at dusk.


On Friday, July 5, Little Angels Benefit Roping, a Team Tying Competition ,will begin a 9 a.m. at the Park Arena.


The entry fee is $80 per team. Vendors will be available during the day and at 5 p.m., hamburgers will be served from 5- 7 p.m. to benefit the Frisco Buyers Club -- who purchase animals at the County Fair for 4-H kids. That will be followed by dancing to the Real West Band at the park pavillion.

On Saturday, July 6, the Brush Poppers Ranch Rodeo will begin at 10 a.m. Events include horse catching, sorting and branding, wild cow milking and range branding. The entry fee is $500 per team.


At 5:30 p.m., the Cowbelles BBQ will be served followed by the art auction and dancing at 8 p.m. to the Real West Band. The Art Auction features work by well-known Western artists.
