chorale posing at Terrazas Funeral Chapel last ChristmasSilver Chorale will be performing their spring concerts the first weekend of May. The mixed choir is performing at Terrazas Funeral Chapel Friday, May 2nd at 7pm, doors open at 6:30. It is located at 1 Ft. Bayard Rd. in Santa Clara, NM. The second performance will be a Crosspoint Church Sunday, May 4th at 3pm, doors open at 2:30. "Luis Terrazas and his wonderful staff provide a lovely venue for our evening concert Friday night. They are very accommodating and happy to hear us sing at their facility. "Luis says there's always so much sadness here, but it's so nice to hear beautiful music and see smiling faces enter our doors," reported a board member of their bi-annual performances at Terrazas' chapel.
Director Bryce Wooton relates "how comfortable and accommodating it is to perform at Crosspoint Church and work with Pastor Tim Heyer. He sees to all our needs and really enjoys hosting our choir for rehearsals and performances." "Both venues live stream our concerts which is an added benefit for us and our community," says Wooton.
Chorale performing last December at Crosspoint ChurchThe music this semester offers a great deal of challenge for the singers and presents a beautiful list of styles and genre. Atleast half of the program is accapella (without accompanist) this semester, which lends to the difficulty.
The choir for its third year is participating in the Gila Community Foundations's Give Grandly event in Gough Park on Saturday, May 3rd from 9-2. Donations may be made on line also. Since Silver Chorale is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization, it is eligible to participate and has found doing so has exposed the choir to more of our community and therefore benefited from the Give Grandly benefactors. The choir has expressed great appreciation to those who have donated to their cause of preserving the art of chorale music.
Twelve musical numbers will be presented. Several of them are: "Sleep," "Feeling Good," "Ballad to the Moon," "Irish Country Dance" and "Ubi Caritas."
The concerts are free to the public.
Although the chorale is a non-profit group, donations are welcome as they assist with purchase of new music, equipment, copying costs and advertising expenses. The choir is directed by Bryce Wooton and accompanied by Laurel Brown. For more information call 575-654-1976.
