Santa Fe, NM — House Bill 2 passed the Senate by a (24-16) vote with every Republican member voting in opposition. The FY26 budget is approximately $10.8 Billion, a 6% increase from FY25, and represents a growth of over 70% to the state budget under the current Lujan Grisham Administration.

Senate Republican Leader Bill Sharer issued the following statement in response:

"Our budget has grown 75% in the last 7 years; how has this immense increase in spending benefitted New Mexicans? Are our children 75% more proficient in math and reading? Are our communities 75% safer? Is your wait time to see a doctor 75% shorter? Are our roads 75% improved? The answer is no, which is why Senate Republicans were proud to stand united in our opposition to another year of increased government spending while New Mexicans get zero return on investment. New Mexicans must realize the Democrat party is squandering their tax dollars and doing absolutely nothing to improve their lives. We remain last in every good category and first in every bad category. Elections have consequences… it's sad the Democrat party has chosen to flush another $11 Billion down the drain."
