The Cobre Consolidated School Board held a special meeting on September 14, 2026. Board members in attendance included Hector Carrillo, Gilbert Guadiana, and David Wilguess. Dr. Verenice Gutierrez, superintendent, also attended. Gabriella Begay and Agelina Hardin did not attend.
The board approved the agenda.
Public input none currently.
Action items
The board approved the resolution for the lease-purchase agreement certificate of a purchase agreement. Kaeley Weimerskirch, RBC Capital, joined online to provide information. This will be for the terms of the sale of the bonds that provide the technology notes in the amount of $825,000. Guadiana asked how long they had to spend the funding and Weimerskirch said five years.

The town of Hurley had a regular meeting September 8, 2026. Reynaldo Maynes, Ester Gil, and Robert Candelaria attended. Jason Cox did not attend . Aron Phillips attended later in the meeting.
Public input
Archi Padilla said she knew they would be voting on the resolution for the TNR (trap neuter release) implementation plan. Southwest New Mexico Borderland Animal Rescue Coalition (BARC) had submitted a plan to the council, and it would be in their hands. However, they would continue to do what they had been doing. By implementing the resolution, the town will know everything they would be doing.
Arlene Lucero wanted to add to what Padilla had said. They started BARC two years earlier and the coalition part of the name had been purposeful because the philosophy of the organization has been to work with other people to bring people together. This resolution will be for the benefit of the town and make them formal partners.

Madeline Daly sentenced on Capital Murder Charge
Silver City, NM –District Attorney Norman R. Wheeler announced that on September 28, 2026, 36-year-old Madeline Veronique Daly was sentenced to life imprisonment in the New Mexico Department of Corrections, the maximum penalty in New Mexico for First-Degree Murder. The charge stems from the shooting death of her 11-month-old son.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Joseph Silva represented the State during the hearing. Presiding Judge Tom F. Stewart addressed the Defendant stating that a parole board may consider her release in 30 years.

The annual Grant County Fair this year , 2026, was dedicated to NM District 39 Representative Luis Terrazas, County Manager Charlene Webb and Grant County Public Works Director Jason Lockett for their legislative funding and county work at the Cliff-Gila Fairgrounds. Saturday was the final day of the fair and included the Junior Livestock show and the awards ceremony.

The Silver City Town Council held a meeting September 8, 2026. Attendance to the meeting included Mayor Simon Wheaton-Smith, Nicholas Prince, Stan Snider, Victor Nanez and Angela Salaiz.
The council approved the agenda with the exception of removing the executive session.
Ceremonies
Jackie Harnandez Davis had been awarded employee of the month. She had not been able to attend but a letter from Judge Mark Van Buskirk was read. He said she has been dedicated for seventeen years as a court administrator and her contributions warrant recognition. She has an impressive understanding of the office operations consistently ensuring everything runs smooth. His letter continued by saying she has been the go to person for troubleshooting technical issues and managing video presentations. She has an unwavering willingness to help her colleagues. Van Buskirk continued to expound on her contributions and said, "She is the Wikipedia of our municipal court and a fountain of knowledge."
Nanez had attended the Municipal League training and brought a certificate to present to Prince for his hard work and dedication to the community.

The Bayard Town Council held a regular meeting August 19, 2026. Attendance included Mayor John L. Ojinaga, Mayor Pro Tem Eloy Gonzales, Councilors Eloy Medina, Gilbert Ortiz and Charles Gray. Martha Salas, city clerk, also attended.
The council started with a public hearing concerning the change of ownership for the liquor license at the Food Basket. Salas said this would only be a change in ownership and the name would remain the same. No one from the public had any input and the hearing closed

John Saenz asked when the Conex container would be moved from the little league field. Due to it being public comment, the council and mayor could not answer.

The Grant County Fair kicked off Wednesday at theCounty Fairgrounds in Cliff . Thanks to generous sponsors, entry into the fair is at no cost. The rodeo and dances do have fees.

Samantha AnglinSixth Judicial District Attorney Norman R. Wheeler announced that both BRUCE ANGLIN and SAMANTHA ANGLIN were sentenced on Monday, September 21, 2026, by Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Jennifer DeLaney. Chief Deputy District Attorney Cashmala Fazal represented the state during both sentencing hearings.
