At a special joint meeting with the City of Lordsburg council and the Hidalgo County Commission held on July 28, 2025, the city council voted to operate the Ena Mitchell Senior Center effective August 9, 2025, when the contract with Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) terminates. This action will ensure continuation of nutrition and transportation services at the senior center.
To prepare for this transition, the Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging is providing training and technical assistance to new service providers--the City of Lordsburg, Town of Silver City, and Village of Santa Clara—which will begin operating senior centers throughout Hidalgo and Grant counties on August 9.
The Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging thanks HMS, the new senior center providers, the Aging and Long-Term Service Department, and especially the 200 seniors and senior center staff who participated in meetings regarding the senior center transitions in mid-July. The valuable information gathered at those meetings and in surveys is being compiled and will be shared with the new providers.
